Sunday Bible Study- 1 Timothy
Download and print out these Bible studies for the in-depth exploration of Paul's first letter to the Apostle Timothy while he was in Ephesus, likely written around 63 AD. This was between the times of Paul's first and final imprisonments, just a few years before his martyrdom that is believed to have been committed on the order of Nero or one of his subordinates.

As we walk thru the letter written to Timothy, we’re going to list the things that define a Church according to Paul. Stressing the importance of Sound Doctrine, Paul commands Timothy to “stay there in Ephesus so that you may command certain people not to teach false doctrines…”

In Timothy, Paul lays out seven principles that a Church must have. Sound doctrine is the building block for those principles. Paul is very clear that while there are different methods of how we communicate the Gospel, we don’t change the meaning, intent and language of the Gospel. God’s truth is timeless truth. It doesn’t change. Approaches may change and styles may change, but we don’t water down the Gospel, change the Gospel, or twist truth to make it more convenient to our lifestyles.

Paul’s chief aim was to make God in Christ known to all people, “so that all might honor and glorify Him as the only God and their eternal King.” As a devout Jew, he believed he was doing God a favor by killing Christians. Throughout Acts and 1st Timothy, Paul we see that he never got over the fact that he had been determined to destroy the Christian church. However, he doesn’t use the opportunity to revisit his guilt, but as someone who is grateful and thankful that our merciful God transformed him from a persecutor to an apostle.
